To get the right amount of omega 3s two servings of fish oil is recommended. In the liquid form of fish oil 1tsp has 1300mg. The maximum daily dose that can be consumed is 5000mg of fish oil. If that number is passed fish oil can have adverse effects.
Side Effects
High blood sugar: Taking larger doses of fish oil can raise blood sugar levels. Large amounts of omega 3s can stimulate the production of glucose
Bleeding: Taking large amounts of fish oil can lead to bleeding gums and nosebleeds. Do not take prior to surgery because of possibility of excessive bleeding.
Low Blood Pressure: Fish oil can bring blood pressure too low if you are taking hypertension medication.
Diarrhea: This is a common side effect along with flatulence. Flaxseed oil can increase bowel frequency.
Acid Reflux: Due to high fat with increased doses acid reflux appears. Also the fat content triggers indigestion.
Weight Gain: High doses can contribute to weight gain because of high fat content.
Vitamin A Toxicity: Fish oil can contain vitamins A and D. Higher doses can cause toxicity. The toxicity cause dizziness, nausea, joint pain and skin irritation. Vitamin A toxicity can also lead to liver damage and liver failure. It also can cause insomnia.
